INDIA, Dec. 10 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday observed Swahid Diwas by honouring the martyrs of the Assam Movement.

He said their sacrifices hold a defining place in India's history and reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to promoting Assam's cultural identity and overall development.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote that Swahid Diwas is a reminder of the courage shown by everyone who took part in the Assam Movement. He added that the government remains committed to fulfilling the aspirations of those who fought to protect Assam's identity and ensure the state's all-around progress.
