Guwahati, Feb. 20 -- Mizoram foundation day is an annual celebration held on February 20 to commemorate the attainment of statehood by the Northeast state in 1987.

On this significant day, the Lushai Hills Autonomous District Council was elevated to the status of a full-fledged state, marking Mizoram as the 23rd state of India.

February 20 is also observed as the Statehood Day for both Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

Situated in Northeast region of India, Mizoram stands as the southernmost landlocked state in the area.
