India, Dec. 12 -- The Central Government has decided to rename the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) 2005.
The scheme will now be called the Pujya Bapu Grameen Rozgar Guarantee Bill 2025.
Officials say the change is intended to give the rural employment programme a refreshed identity while continuing its primary goal of providing livelihood support to rural households across India.
Launched in 2005, MGNREGA ensures 100 days of wage employment for rural households willing to perform unskilled manual work.
The programme has become a vital support system for rural workers, particularly during economic slowdowns and crises.
