India, Dec. 12 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on December 11 inaugurated the construction of the Mawkhanu Football Stadium Complex by laying its concrete foundation at New Shillong. Once completed, the project is poised to become the largest football stadium in India.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, Sangma announced that the proposed stadium "will stand as the largest football stadium in the country."

On the same day, the chief minister initiated another significant sports project - a synthetic athletic track at Chinchona, Pahamsyiem in Ri-Bhoi district.
