India, Dec. 27 -- Meghalaya's Voice of the People Party (VPP) in Nongkrem constituency has condemned threats by the banned militant group Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) against its leaders, including party president and MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit, The Shillong Times reported.

In a statement on Friday, VPP Nongkrem constituency secretary H. Riang described the threats as a serious attempt to intimidate democratically elected representatives and undermine the democratic process.

He called the actions unacceptable and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
