Guwahati, Nov. 16 -- The Meghalaya Public Service Commission's newly inaugurated centre in Tura has begun functioning immediately, conducting its first written examination on November 15 and signalling a major shift in how competitive exams are accessed in the western part of the state.

By holding the test just days after the centre's inauguration, the government demonstrated its intent to decentralise examination facilities and reduce the burden on aspirants who previously had to travel long distances to Shillong for major exams, including the state civil services.
