Imphal, June 3 -- The ongoing monsoon season has brought water crisis into sharp focus, with the worst floods in decades crippling large parts of Imphal, especially the Imphal East district of Manipur.
The deluge has not only submerged streets but also forced the shutdown of nearly all water treatment facilities, cutting the water supply by a staggering 85%.
On Thursday, the Government of Manipur officially announced a temporary suspension of drinking water supply across several flood-affected areas in the Manipur Valley. The Imphal East district, one of the hardest-hit regions, remains severely impacted as floodwaters have infiltrated water treatment machinery, rendering them inoperable.
