India, Jan. 21 -- Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya, which attained full statehood within the Indian Union on January 21, 1972, observed their Statehood Day today. The occasion marks the transition of the three northeastern regions from princely states or administrative units of other states to full-fledged States of the Union.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of the three States on the occasion. In a social media post, the President said the States were endowed with a rich cultural legacy, vibrant traditions and remarkable natural beauty.
