NAGAON, April 26 -- The police in Morigaon district of Assam finds itself embroiled in controversy as allegations emerge of 'illegal' detention of a Congress leader.

Krishnadas, the chairperson of Assam Congress's scheduled caste (SC) department, was allegedly picked up by the police on the eve of second phase of Lok Sabha election.

These allegations were raised by senior Assam Congress leader and party's candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency - Pradyut Bordoloi - on Friday (April 26).

The incident, which allegedly occurred at the stroke of midnight on Thursday (April 25), has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Assam.
