India, Sept. 23 -- Guwahati: Legendary umpire Dickie Bird, one of the game's most iconic and beloved figures, died on Tuesday, September 23 at his home at the age of 92.
The Yorkshire County Cricket Club announced his passing with "profound sadness," describing him as not only a symbol of Yorkshire cricket but also one of the sport's greatest characters.
Born on 19 April 1933 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, Bird was devoted to cricket.
Bird stood in 66 Test matches and 69 ODIs between 1973 and 1996.
He also officiated in three Cricket World Cup finals.
