India, Jan. 1 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state government will step up its crackdown on illegal immigration in 2026, following what he described as an extensive pushback exercise carried out over the past year.
In a post on social media platform X, Sarma said Assam conducted a "massive" operation in 2025 to push back illegal Bangladeshi nationals and warned that the administration would intensify the drive in the coming year.
The chief minister asserted that the government would adopt a tougher approach in continuing the exercise and would not relent in enforcing measures against illegal entrants. "Assam is not your breeding ground," Sarma wrote, signalling stricter action ahead.
