Guwahati, Feb. 25 -- The Supreme Court has reportedly reserved its verdict on the plea seeking an independent investigation into 171 alleged fake police encounters in Assam between May 2021 and August 2022.
The court's decision comes after hearing arguments from both the Assam government and the petitioner, Arif Md Yeasin Jwadder.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Assam government, claimed that the state has been following the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in 2014.
Mehta said that the state has been registering First Information Reports (FIRs) and conducting independent investigations into encounter-related deaths.
