GUWAHATI, March 9 -- Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Assam for a two-day visit, student bodies and political parties intensified their protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The United Opposition Forum, Assam (UOFA), comprising 16 parties, staged a sit-in demonstration at Kaliabor Tiniali, about 50km from Kohora, where the PM stayed overnight.

Later in the evening, the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and 30 other organizations held a memorial, lighting lamps in honor of five individuals who lost their lives during the anti-CAA movement in 2019.

Modi arrived in the state on Friday afternoon and stayed at the Assam police guest house near Central Kohora Range in Kaziranga National Park.
