India, Nov. 8 -- An elderly couple was violently attacked and robbed at their residence in Morikalong in central Assam's Nagaon town, police said.

The victims, retired education department employee Harendra Nath Bora and his wife, Dipti Bora, were allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by their caretaker, Prabhat Hazarika.

The caretaker reportedly fled the scene following the assault, taking cash and other valuables.

Police sources confirmed that Hazarika had resided with the couple for a period. The preliminary assessment indicates that the motive for the attack was robbery.
