India, Jan. 20 -- An NSCN-KYA cadre surrendered to security forces during a joint operation in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district on Monday.

The surrendered cadre has been identified as Akha alias Khawang Wangsu (38), a resident of Longphong village in Longding district.

An Assam Rifles official said that on January 19, intelligence inputs indicated the presence of an active insurgent in the Longding bazaar area. A joint operation was launched by personnel from Khonsa Battalion and Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police.

"Our ground sources made contact with the insurgent and persuaded him to surrender. After several hours, he agreed to lay down arms," the official said.
