Washington, Feb. 27 -- Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, called on the House to pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, legislation that mandates universal background checks for the purchase of firearms in the United States. Last month, following the bill's introduction, HRC announced its support of H.R. 8 and a similar bill in the Senate, and called on Members of Congress to follow the lead of gun reform advocates, including former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who has been a vocal proponent of the measure.
