CHENNAI, Jan. 19 -- Amid the ongoing protests against the Revised Citizenship Act (CAA) in India, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday informed in an event held in Chennai that 2838 Pakistani refugees have been granted citizenship of India during the last 6 years.

2838 Pakistani refugees get citizenship The Finance Minister said that 2838 Pakistani refugees, 914 Afghan refugees and 172 Bangladeshi refugees were given citizenship of India in the last 6 years, including those from the Muslim community. In this order, from 1964 to 2008, more than four lakh Sri Lankan Tamils have been given citizenship of India.
