NEW DELHI, Feb. 25 -- Supreme Court Judge Deepak Gupta said that the right to disagree is essential for democracy. On Monday, he said that criticism of the executive, judiciary, bureaucracy and armed forces cannot be called anti-national.

'Biggest right to disagree' He said that the right to disagree is the biggest and most important right given to the common people by the constitution and it also includes the right to criticism. He said, "There can be no democracy without disagreement."

In a lecture organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on 'Democracy and Disagreement', Justice Gupta said that everyone should be open to criticism, and the judiciary is not above criticism.
