NEW DELHI, Nov. 9 -- More than 40,000 employees of public sector telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have opted for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS). The company has announced this plan three days ago. Company chairman and managing director PK Purwar gave this information in a conversation with reporters here on Friday.

Explain that the government had announced a relief package of Rs 69,000 crore for the revival of BSNL and Mahanagar Telecom Corporation Limited (MTNL) only last month. This includes merging the two loss making companies, monetizing their assets, giving VRS to employees, etc. The aim is to bring the combined company to profit within two years.
