India, April 16 -- German prosecutors on Monday said they have charged former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn in connection with diesel emissions fraud. The 71-year-old was aware that diesel emissions were being manipulated as early as 2014 but failed to inform authorities and customers, the prosecutors alleged. Volkswagen was caught using illegal engine control software to cheat US pollution tests in 2015.
