INDIA, Oct. 16 -- In what could spark a political debate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in its manifesto for the upcoming Maharashtra elections, promised to push for Bharat Ratna award for late activist and politician Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Veer Savarkar. The BJP, on Tuesday, released its poll manifesto called the 'Sankalp Patra' for the Maharashtra elections which are slated to take place on October 21. In its 44-page manifesto, the party has also made a promise to demand Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, for social activists Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
