India, June 25 -- The International Cricket Council's (ICC) objective to make cricket a global sport witnessed a new idea as the apex body proposed making the 50-over World Cup a once-in-three-year tournament instead of the current format - which sees it being held once every four years. The idea, however, was shot down by full members - including India, Australia and England - during the group meeting with chief executives of all the Full Member nations. Unhappy with the attention the current World Cup - being held in England and Wales - is receiving, the stakeholders have rather asked for the focus to be shifted to T20 tournaments as that is the only format which has the capacity to make this sport accepted globally.
