New Delhi, Jan. 14 -- The 2021 Men's Handball World Championship (the 27th edition of the tournament) started in Egypt on January 13. In the inaugural match of the tournament, hosts Egypt defeated Chile 35-29. The match was played at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, Cairo. At halftime, Egypt led 18-11.

Yehia El Deraa was named Man of the Match after leading his team to an impressive win, scoring six goals from six throws.

Egypt and Chile play in Group G which also includes Sweden and North Macedonia, which replaced the Czech Republic who withdrew after some of their players have tested positive of the Coronavirus.
