New Delhi, Jan. 9 -- In a major move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, January 9, distanced herself from the campaign by a united opposition against the newly-enacted citizenship law and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), saying that her party will skip the opposition meeting convened by Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in the National Capital on Monday, January 13.

While speaking at a special session of the Bengal assembly, Mamata Banerjee said, "Due to the politics of opposition in state, in contradiction with their all-India stance, I have decided not to attend the anti-CAA and NRC meeting on January 13," adding further, "I was the first to launch an andolan (movement) against CAA and NRC.
