New Delhi, Dec. 20 -- The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025 has been passed in both Houses of the Indian Parliament.
The Bill seeks to consolidate and update India's nuclear laws, enable limited private participation under strict regulatory oversight, and strengthen statutory regulation by granting formal recognition to the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). It also aligns with India's clean-energy transition and the long-term objective of achieving 100 GW of nuclear energy capacity by 2047.
