New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- The Supreme Court has upheld the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 while staying certain portions of it.
The court ruled that while the mandatory registration of Waqf properties on the UMEED digital portal cannot be interfered with, provisions allowing collectors to make final determinations on property status and alter revenue records stand suspended. Such disputes, the Bench held, must be adjudicated by Waqf tribunals and High Courts, and until then, no third-party rights can be created in the contested properties.
On the composition of Waqf bodies, the court directed that the Central Waqf Council should not have more than four non-Muslim members, while state Waqf boards should not include more than three non-Muslims. I...
