New Delhi, April 22 -- Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh is the candidate of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for the post of Delhi Mayor. He filed his nomination papers today in the presence of BJP MPs Harsh Malhotra, Yogender Chandolia and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh comes from a family with deep ties to the Akali Dal-his father-in-law was a former councillor from GTB Nagar, and his brother-in-law is active in Akali politics. He himself served as the Akali Dal councillor from GTB Nagar and chaired the Civil Lines zone until September 2020. When the Akalis exited the NDA over the farm laws, he was asked to resign but refused. Nine months later, the BJP appointed him as mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
