Ram Vanji Sutar (19 February 1925 - 18 December 2025) was one of India's most distinguished sculptors, whose monumental works reshaped the country's public art landscape. He is best known as the designer of the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, the world's tallest statue, rising to 182 metres (597 feet) and surpassing China's Spring Temple Buddha by 54 metres. The statue, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stands as a global symbol of India's unity and engineering prowess.
