New Delhi, July 19 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects exceeding Rs.5,400 crore in Durgapur, West Bengal. Emphasizing Durgapur's role as a steel and labour hub, he said the new infrastructure initiatives will enhance connectivity, boost the gas-based economy, and generate employment. Key projects include the Durgapur-Kolkata section of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga pipeline, City Gas Distribution in Bankura and Purulia, and the retrofitting of pollution control systems at thermal power plants. Upgraded facilities in steel and power sectors saw investments of over Rs.1,500 crore.
