New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- The Supreme Court of India has observed that the National Green Tribunal does not have the power to order a probe against an entity by the Enforcement Directorate under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
This observation was made by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandra
The case began with directions from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against M/s C.L. Gupta Export Ltd., which was accused of serious environmental violations. These included extracting groundwater and releasing untreated waste into Ganga tributaries during the production of metal and glass artware, thermocol blocks, and other items.
