New Delhi, Dec. 13 -- Amid protests over the lotus symbol used on the new passports, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) cleared its stance saying that printing of the new symbol is a new feature to ensure enhanced security to identify fake passports. The Ministry further added that other national symbols will also be used in rotation.

The move comes as part of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines. All the 36 passport offices have started following the prescribed guidelines.
