New Delhi, Oct. 31 -- The President of India has appointed Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court, as the Chief Justice of India, with effect from November 24, 2025. The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, issued the official notification after the President signed the Warrant of Appointment.

Born on February 10, 1962, in Petwar village, Hisar district, Haryana, Justice Surya Kant obtained his Law degree from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak in 1984 and began his practice in the Hisar District Courts. He moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1985, where he specialized in Constitutional, Service, and Civil matters.
