New Delhi, March 11 -- Justice Joymalya Bagchi, a judge of the Calcutta High Court, was on Monday appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.

The apex court collegium had recommended his name on March 6.

His appointment was announced by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X.

Justice Bagchi would have a tenure of more than six years in the top court, during which he will also serve as the Chief Justice of India.

Additionally, three new appointments have been made to the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court: Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Rajesh Sekhri, and Mohd. Yousuf Wani, all elevated from their positions as Additional Judges.
