New Delhi, April 12 -- Last week saw high drama in the Jordan Royal Family when Prince Hamzah bin Hussein was allegedly arrested by authorities and placed under house arrest. The arrest was denied by authorities though Jordanian government officials accused the Prince of trying to ferment instability using foreign assistance.

Hamzah bin Hussein, who is the cousin brother of King Abdullah II, accused the government of corruption and malpractices. The whole event was portrayed by the authorities as an aversion of a possible coup by Hamzah. However, the low-key arrest with thin security forces used in the operation suggests that King Abdullah is trying to solidify his position and eliminate any possible challenges to his position.
