New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday underlined the need to strengthen the economic foundation of the India-Russia strategic partnership, calling for greater trade, investment, and joint ventures between the two countries.

Speaking at the India-Russia Business Forum alongside First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Jaishankar said that while India and Russia have maintained one of the most stable relationships among major powers, their economic engagement has not kept pace. He pointed out that the trade basket remains narrow, trade volumes have only recently grown, and the deficit has widened, making diversification and balance urgent priorities.
