New Delhi, Dec. 26 -- The Kimberley Process Plenary has chosen India to take over the chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process from January 1, 2026. The Kimberley Process is a tripartite framework bringing together governments, the global diamond industry, and civil society to prevent the circulation of conflict diamonds-rough diamonds used to fund armed groups and destabilise legitimate governments, as defined by UN Security Council resolutions.

India will first assume the role of Vice Chair on December 25, 2025, before formally taking charge as Chair in 2026. This will mark the third occasion on which India has been entrusted with leading the Kimberley Process.
