New Delhi, May 16 -- The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted wind speeds to reach up to 55-65 kmph with gusting up to 75 kmph on Saturday, May 16, as the states in east coast brace for Cyclone Amphan.

The IMD further said that the cyclone system is likely to form by this evening, May 16, over southwest Bay of Bengal, that will be centred about 1100 km south of Paradip off Odisha coast, 1250 km south of Digha and 1330 km south-southwest of Khepupara off Bangladesh coast.

The wind speeds will rise to 75-85 kmph gusting at 95 kmph, as the cyclonic system would evolve from 'Depression' to 'Deep depression' and then into the 'Cyclonic storm' category.
