New Delhi, Feb. 19 -- The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the Arbor Day Foundation have recognized Hyderabad as a 2020 Tree City of the World.

Arbor Day Foundation President Dan Lambe said Hyderabad was "part of an important global network leading the way in urban and community forestry". Appreciating Hyderabad's commitment to effective urban forest management, which he said was helping to ensure a better future for its residents.

The Tree Cities of the World programme is an international effort to recognize cities and towns committed to ensuring that their urban forests and trees are properly maintained, sustainably managed, and duly celebrated.
