New Delhi, Feb. 26 -- Former Congress Member of Parliament Sajjan Kumar is currently serving a life sentence for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, in which thousands of Sikhs were killed following the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Kumar was convicted for the murder of two Sikh men and the burning of a gurdwara in Delhi's Raj Nagar Part II. His sentencing, handed down in 2018, came after years of legal battles and allegations of political protection. He was found guilty of instigating violence that led to the killing of five Sikhs in Raj Nagar Part I, Palam Colony, on November 1-2, 1984.
