New Delhi, Jan. 16 -- Tintin's drawing by the Belgian artist Herge sold in Paris for 2.6 million euros (USD 3.1 million) on Thursday, breaking the record for the most costly comic book art ever.

The work was created in Chinese ink with gouache and watercolor and was meant as a cover for The Blue Lotus in 1936, the fifth volume of the Tintin's adventures created by a young reporter Herge name was George Remi. It showcased a red dragon on a black background by the scared character's face. It never graced any store since it was considered too costly to even think about reproducing on a wide scale.

However, it set a record at an auction organized by the Artcurial sales auction house. It excluded auction charges.
