New Delhi, Jan. 7 -- Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta clarified that the expulsion of certain opposition members during the Lieutenant Governor's address on January 5, 2026, was due to repeated disruptions and violations of the House's code of conduct, and not related to any discussion on pollution or the issue of wearing masks.
In a statement, the Speaker said that continuous interruptions during the Lieutenant Governor's address adversely affected the dignity of the House. He stressed that such conduct left the Chair with no option but to act in accordance with established rules and parliamentary decorum.
