New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- The government at the Centre has given its nod for putting in place the first batch of reforms in the Army.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the go ahead for bringing in the reforms that include establishment of a separate vigilance cell under the Army Chief with three Colonel-level officers, one each from Army, Indian Air Force and Navy, setting up of an umbrella organisation to focus on human rights issues to be operated under the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), along with the relocation of 206 officers from the Army headquarters.

Reiterating the same, the Defence Ministry said, “The Defence Minister has approved certain decisions regarding re-organisation of Army headquarters.”
