New Delhi, March 3 -- The 2025 German Federal elections to elect the 630 members of the German Bundestag resulting in a victory for the conservative CDU/CSU alliance (a Christian Democratic alliance of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria). The CDU/CSU alliance led by Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz got 28.6% of the votes. Another notable outcome of the election was the strong performance of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) which came second and received 20.8% of the vote share. This is the strongest performance by a far-right party in Germany post-World War II. Former governing coalition partners the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens won 16.4% and 11.6% respectively....
