New Delhi, April 6 -- Amidst charges of corruption levied against him by former Police Commissioner of Mumbai Parambir Singh, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned from his office.

Bombay High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to carry out a "preliminary inquiry" into the allegations against him.

"I don't have the moral right to continue in office after the court order. I have decided to quit. Kindly relieve me from my post," Deshmukh's resignation letter read

While speaking to reporters, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said, "Deshmukh informed NCP chief Sharad Pawar that it won't be appropriate to remain in the post as CBI will be probing the charges against him.
