New Delhi, June 17 -- The Government of India has officially announced that the next decennial Census of India will be conducted in the year 2027. This decision, issued through notification S.O. 2681(E) by the Ministry of Home Affairs, supersedes the earlier notification from March 2019 regarding the 2021 census, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the notification, the Census will be conducted in two phases. According to the notification, the reference date for the census will be 00:00 hours on 1 March 2027. However, an exception has been made for the Union territory of Ladakh and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
