New Delhi, May 3 -- Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has decided to pull the plug on diesel cars from 1 April 2020, raising questions on whether the company will be able to retain its more than 50% share in the world's fastest growing major car market. The step has largely been driven by tightening regulations and adverse market sentiment about diesel in India, which is home to some of the world's most polluted cities. India's largest carmaker by sales will attempt to maintain its share of more than half the domestic car market by enticing potential buyers towards its growing range of cars that run on compressed natural gas (CNG) in addition to petrol vehicles.
