New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- Flipkart, India's largest online retailer, has started its digital wholesale marketplace, taking on e-tailers who are boosting businessto- business (B2B) operations and digitizing small shopkeepers or kiranas to tap India's large and fast-growing consumer base.

Flipkart Wholesale aims to connect local manufacturers with retailers using technology.

This would allow kiranas to place orders on the platform and receive a delivery.

The launch follows the acquisition in July by Flipkart of the Indian operations of Walmart Inc. as its US parent sought to consolidate its operations in the country to compete with Reliance Retail's JioMart and Amazon India.
