New delhi, Dec. 27 -- On the evening of 11 December, an excited audience assembled in the auditorium of Kala Academy, Panaji. It waited eagerly for the Goa University Choir to begin its performance, The Big OceanCantata. A hush descended as a soprano soloist, a violin soloist and a mixed choir sang in Tibetan and Sanskrit, accompanied by two pianos and a Tibetan percussion set. Dedicated to the 14th Dalai Lama, this cantata combined elements of Tibetan and Indian musical and philosophical traditions with Western composition techniques.
