Kolkata, July 1 -- Eastern Railway's (ER) Sealdah Division has announced the introduction of three new Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) special services on the Sealdah-Diamond Harbour section on a trial basis, aimed at easing the extra rush of suburban passengers during morning hours. The trains are set to start running from Wednesday, an official said.
The new services include a Sonarpur-Diamond Harbour train departing at 5 am and arriving at 6:05 am, a Diamond Harbour-Ballygunge special leaving at 6:30 am and reaching at 7:56 am and a Ballygunge-Sonarpur local scheduled to depart at 8:14 am and reach its destination by 8:33 am.
To accommodate these services, 34882 Sonarpur-Diamond Harbour local has been rescheduled to depart ten minutes earlier, now leaving at 4:40 am instead of 4:50 am and will reach Diamond Harbour at 5:45 am. Officials said that the additional services are expected to reduce overcrowding on the Diamond Harbour route and provide greater convenience for daily commuters, particularly those heading towards Ballygunge. This move follows the Sealdah Division's recent introduction of five new local trains in the Dum Dum Cantonment-Bongaon section to enhance peak-hour connectivity across the suburban network.
