New Delhi, May 4 -- Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday and is understood to have discussed the security situation arising out of the rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.
According to official sources, the meeting took place in Delhi, but no formal statement was issued regarding the discussions. "The Chief of Air Staff briefed the Prime Minister," a senior official confirmed, declining to share further details.
This interaction comes shortly after Navy Chief Admiral
Dinesh K Tripathi also met the Prime Minister to discuss maritime security concerns in the Arabian Sea, an area of strategic importance.
Following the Pahalgam incident, which India has attributed to actors with "cross-border linkages," the government has vowed a strong response. In a meeting held last week with senior military leaders, Prime Minister Modi granted the armed forces full autonomy in choosing the method, timing, and targets of any retaliatory operations.
A senior defence official present in that meeting stated, "The message from the top leadership is clear - the response will be resolute and will not be delayed."
India has already rolled out a series of countermeasures, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari land route, and reduction of diplomatic ties with Pakistan. Trade and airspace restrictions have also been reciprocated by Islamabad.
On Saturday, the Indian government widened its sanctions by halting all imports from Pakistan and ceasing postal links. Additionally, ships bearing the Pakistani flag have been barred from docking at Indian ports, citing national security concerns.
The situation remains tense as New Delhi signals a readiness for further actions.
